Allen and Helen Brown Scholarship

Special focus: Scholarships limited to members of churches either in the New Orleans District of the Louisiana Conference or the Nashville District of the Tennessee Conference.

                  Eligibility requirements:

1.      Be an active, full member of a United Methodist Church for at least three years prior to application.

2.      Be recommended by his/her pastor.

3.      Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.

4.      Have a 3.0 or higher grade point average (4.0 scale).

5.      Be able to document financial need.

Number awarded annually:  Two awarded in 1999.

Amount of scholarship:  $600.

David W. Self Scholarship

Special focus: The purpose of these scholarships is to aid United Methodist students who are continuing their self-development through higher education. These awards are for the first year of undergraduate study and are non-renewable.

                  Eligibility requirements:

1.      Be an active, full member of a United Methodist Church for at least one year prior to application.

2.      Must be a graduating senior in high school entering their freshman year of undergraduate study

3.      Have a 2.0 or higher grade point average (4.0 scale).

4.      Be able to demonstrate financial need.

                  Number awarded annually:  Two awarded in 1997.

Amount of scholarship:  Up to $1,000.

E. Craig Brandenburg Graduate Awards

Special focus: Awards are for persons older than 35 years of age desiring to make positive contributions to Society and who have special needs due to a change of profession/vocation, interrupted study, or for continuing education.

                  Eligibility requirements:

1.      Be 35 years of age or older.

2.      Be an active, full member of a United Methodist Church for at least one year prior to application.

Number awarded annually:  Information could not be located.

Amount of scholarship:  $500 - $2,000.

Ernest I. and Eurice Miller Bass Scholarship

Special focus: Scholarships for undergraduate students preparing for elders orders, deacons orders, or other helping professions.

                  Eligibility requirements:

1.      Be an active, full member of a United Methodist Church for at least one year prior to application.

2.      Preference given to students preparing for religious vocations.

3.      Have an above average grade point.

Number awarded annually:  Variable.

Amount of scholarship:  $1,000.

Gift of Hope: 21st Century Scholars Program

Eligibility requirements:

1.            Be an active, full member of a United Methodist Church for at least three years prior to application.

2.            Be able to demonstrate leadership in The United Methodist Church.

3.            Must show how his/her education will provide leadership for the church and society and improve the quality of life for others.

4.            Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, or a member of the Central Conferences of The United Methodist Church.

5.            Must be enrolled as a full-time student (undergraduate or graduate) at an accredited educational institution in the United States.

6.            Preference will be given to students attending United Methodist-related seminaries and theological schools.

7.            Must have a grade point average of 3.0 (undergraduate)/3.5 (graduate) or higher [4.0 scale].

8.            Financial need will be considered.

Number awarded annually:  950 awarded in 2001.

Amount of scholarship: $1,000.

Memorial Music Scholarships

Special focus: The purpose of these scholarships is to further the education of people who have the clear intent of pursuing church music and/or worship leadership as a full-time career.

Eligibility requirements:

1.      Be a full-time music degree candidate, either entering as a freshman or already in an accredited university, college, or school of theology or pursuing special education in worship or the arts related to worship.

2.      Be an active, full member of a United Methodist Church for at least one year prior to application.

3.      Demonstrate evidence of exceptional musical or other artistic talent, effective leadership ability, and outstanding promise of future usefulness to the Church in the areas of music and/or worship.

Number awarded annually:  Two.

Amount of scholarship:  $1,000.

Miriam Hoffman Scholarships

Special focus: The scholarship fund was established to provide scholarships for United Methodist students pursuing a vocational career or continuing their education in music. 

Eligibility requirements:

1.      Be an active, full member of a United Methodist Church.

2.      Preference given to students interested in music education or music ministry.

Number awarded annually:  Twelve awarded in 2001.

Amount of scholarship:  $1,000.

Thom Jones Scholarship

Special focus: The purpose of these scholarships is to further the education of people who plan a ministry in worship, drama, dance, visuals, or other liturgical arts.

Eligibility requirements:

1.      Be a full-time student in special education in worship or the arts related to worship.

2.      Be an active, full member of a United Methodist Church for at least one year prior to application.

3.      Demonstrate evidence of exceptional musical or other artistic talent, effective leadership ability, and outstanding promise of future usefulness to the Church in the areas of music and/or worship.

Number awarded annually:  Two.

Amount of scholarship:  $1,000.
