This category of scholarships is divided into two
sections.
SECTION
I contains scholarships awarded
only to students at United Methodist-related educational
institutions. Click here for a list of the

SECTION
II contains scholarships awarded
to students at any educational institution.
I.
Scholarships for graduate students
accepted and/or enrolled at
United Methodist-related educational
institutions.
Dempster
Graduate Fellowships
Special
focus: Awards made to graduate
students selected for their intellectual competence, academic achievement, promise of usefulness in teaching careers, personal
qualities, clarity of purpose, and commitment to Christian ministry and the
preparation of pastoral leadership for the church.
Eligibility requirements:
1.
Be a member of a

Have plans to
teach in seminaries, or to teach religion and related subjects in universities
and colleges.
3.
Have received
the Master of Divinity degree or its equivalent from a United Methodist
seminary, or be in a Ph.D. program or its equivalent at one of these schools at
the time of application.

awarded annually: Five.
Amount of
scholarship: Up to $11,000.

United
Methodist Foundation Seminary Awards
Eligibility
requirements:
1.
Be an active,
full member in a United Methodist Church for at least one year before
application.
2.
Be a citizen or
permanent resident of the

and/or enrolled as a full-time student in a United Methodist-related seminary or
professional school.
4.
Be nominated by
your institution.
Number
awarded annually: Three scholarships (one for a first-year
student, one for a second-year student, and one for a final-year student) are
provided to each United Methodist-related seminary and professional
school.
Amount of
scholarship:
$3,000.

United
Methodist Seminary Award
Special
focus: Awards are for seminary
students preparing for the pastoral ministry as an ordained
elder.
Eligibility requirements:
1.
Be an active,
full member in a United Methodist Church for at least three years before
application.
2.
Be a citizen or
permanent resident of the

Be enrolled as a
full-time student in a United Methodist-related seminary approved by the
University Senate.
4.
Be a
second-year, third-year, or first-career student.
5.
Be nominated by
his/her seminary.

awarded annually: Two awards are available to each of the
thirteen United Methodist Church Seminaries for each academic year.
Amount of
scholarship: $1,000 -
$1,500.

James C. Baker Scholarship
Special
focus: Scholarships are for campus
ministers in higher education doing advanced studies who have had at least three
years of professional experience in campus ministry.
Eligibility requirements:

The awards are for students pursuing ministry in Christian education,
preparing to become a lay professional, ordained deacon in full connection, or
diaconal minister. The award is
not for students planning to be ordained elders.

recognize a United Methodist student pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Christian
education in a graduate theological seminary.
